🎶 Nonprofit Spotlight: Music for the Ages, Inc.

Creating Harmony Across Generations

By Kari Treat | Publisher | Macaroni KID Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates November 5, 2025

At Macaroni Kid Schaumburg, we love highlighting organizations that bring joy, connection, and creativity to our community. This month, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Music for the Ages, Inc., a nonprofit that’s striking a beautiful chord between generations—one Senior Rock event at a time.

💡 About the Organization

Founded in August 2024, Music for the Ages, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to hosting intergenerational music events that bring together young children (ages 6 months to 6 years) and seniors in local senior living communities. Their mission is simple and powerful: to foster joy, compassion, and connection through music.

🎸 What They Do

Their signature program, Senior Rock, is a free, high-energy music experience held at senior living communities across Chicagoland. These events are open to children and their caregivers and funded entirely through donations and fundraisers. The impact is felt by everyone involved—from the children and parents to the instructors, senior living staff, and most importantly, the seniors themselves.

Music for the Ages believes in the transformative power of music—not just intellectually, but emotionally and socially. Children learn kindness and empathy in a safe, inclusive space, while seniors light up with joy during these meaningful interactions.

📅 Upcoming Events

Music for the Ages hosts multiple Senior Rock events each month, with several already scheduled in the Schaumburg area for November, December, and beyond. You can view their full event list here.

🌟 Community Impact

In just 15 months, Music for the Ages has hosted 44 Senior Rock events, reaching 517 children and 924 seniors. The smiles, laughter, and shared moments are unforgettable—and while photos and videos capture the cuteness, attending an event brings the mission to life in a whole new way.

🙌 How You Can Help

Want to get involved? Music for the Ages is always looking for volunteers to help facilitate events. You can also support their work by donating, attending with your child, or connecting them with a senior living facility close to your heart.

They also partner with Rock n Kids to provide music instruction for children through park districts throughout the region.

📝 Publisher’s Note

My grandmother transitioned to a nursing home facility back in 2022 after my grandfather’s passing, and we would make weekly visits to see her. She and the other residents found so much joy in seeing two little toddlers laughing and giggling with them in their library and marveling at the holiday decorations. She was someone who had a song for every moment, and I wish we could have brought something like this to her new community during her time there.

I love that Music for the Ages is making that kind of joy possible for other families. I’m looking forward to participating in the upcoming Senior Rock event at Alden Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates on December 3rd, and helping bring smiles, music, and connection to more hearts. We hope to see you there!
